I'm a minimalist when it comes to decorating for the holidays. Chalk that up to years of over decorating with my mom when I was a teenager. The South over does it on just about everything, including the holidays. After all that set up, I always hated having to pack everything away because it meant the party was over. Last year I didn't do a thing because I was traveling for the holidays but because of that, I felt like a bit of a scrooge. This year I decided, would be different.
My space is tiny. Two rooms broken in half for a total 350 square feet. This doesn't leave much room for a tree and what horizontal spaces I do have are already allocated for things I use on a regular basis. This year, I decided a wreath would be perfect because I have huge windows and the wreath would add some interest to a blank space.
Whether you are making your own wreath or picking one up from a local florist, make sure the wreath is fresh and full. I found mine at Fieldwork Flowers here in Portland. You can use ribbon or lace, I used rope and tied a few macrame knots and attached it to my window frame. I might add in a few cranberries if I want more color but for now, I love the simplicity of it all.
