1x1 INTERIOR DESIGN

consultation WITH A PRO

Casey grew up on a construction site. Literally. For the first 13 years of her life, home was an 1860’s Victorian her parents bought for $11,000, gutted to the studs, and remodeled DIY-style, all while raising two kids. The remodel took a bit longer than they’d estimated when deciding to take the plunge, but by the time it was complete they were ready for the next project. This time they embarked on building a home on Casey’s grandparents’ 100 acres in Tennessee. By middle school, Casey was hooked, tagging along as her Mom agonized over construction details, antiqued for unique finds, and tore through Architectural Digest and Country Living for inspiration.

When it came time to pursue a vocation, Casey went after a degree and then a career in interior design. With a decade of experience honing her craft through her work for architecture firms, Casey founded her own design studio, Casework, in 2015. Many of Casework’s projects are...you guessed it...thoughtfully designed home remodels. Outside of the studio, Casey’s still perpetually remodeling, currently working on her 1966 Ranchalow in NE Portland. She’s got a soft spot for homes in need of a lot of TLC and the homeowners who fix them up.

She developed 1x1 consultations as a way to connect to the design community and provide years of insight and remodeling expertise to those looking to take their home to the next level. You can now book a 1x1 design consultation with Casey and select members of the Casework design team.

A power hour with a pro. You can spend 30 hours googling and agonizing or you can treat yourself to an hour or 2 of tailored information and advice.

Casey began 1x1 consultations as a way to connect with homeowners and provide advice on renovation projects. After 20 years in the design industry, she has found not everyone needs or wants full-service design but could use an expert opinion on some critical decision-making. She knows firsthand how many decisions need to be made (literally hundreds) and during her own renovations leaned on a few close friends to help make decisions more confidently. She’s here to be that sounding board and guide you through your own project.

Remodel 101:

Casey developed the 1x1 consultation as a way to make interior design services more accessible. She recognizes that not everyone needs or wants full-service design, and, in fact, many homeowners are excited to be more hands-on in the transformation of their homes. Her most successful consultations are with those invested in the process, committed to doing the homework, and who come to the work session ready to share ideas and ask questions.

During the consultation, a designer will give feedback and direction on critical decisions homeowners face when making updates without a full-service designer. The Casework team brings a wealth of knowledge and will use this time together to teach the homeowner the time-tested Casework process for approaching a renovation.

After the consultation, the homeowner continues the work independently, equipped with the information they need to confidently make decisions and empowered to make the project happen.

Each consultation is tailored to the homeowner’s specific needs. Whether your project is a gut renovation or a room in need of a refresh, your designer will guide you in creating a fully-realized space that will be an extension of your personality. We can't wait to connect with you and discuss your project!

Some of the most helpful tips and tricks from my own experiences include identifying parts of the project where you can save money or add value, and when you should always hire a pro (hello, plumbing!).

FAQ

  • What’s the refund policy? You can cancel for a full refund 24 hours or more before the consultation.

  • What if something comes up and I need to reschedule? It’s easy to do. Simply reply to the thread to your designer know you need to reschedule, and she will send an updated calendar invitation.

  • Is the one-on-one consultation similar to e-design services? While both may include a virtual meeting or consultation, that is where the similarities end. E-design typically entails a designer providing a set of deliverables, such as furniture selections, room schemes, or layouts after the virtual meeting. The one-on-one consultation is a virtual work session during which the designer offers guidance, support, and advice. The most productive one-on-one consultations are with homeowners who come prepared with questions to be answered and are committed to the follow-up work required to independently manage their home projects after their call with Casey.

  • How is this different from full-service design? Full-service interior design involves a client hiring a design firm to fully design their space and execute their project. Some clients use the one-on-one consultation as the first step in determining if Casework is a good fit for a full-service design project.

  • I just have a few questions about my home project. Is it worth booking? Design consultations are one hour, and, depending on the complexity of your questions, it may take the entire hour. That said if you have just one or two questions, a one-hour consultation may not be the best option for you.

  • Will I be able to ask follow-up questions? You will be able to ask as many questions as possible during the one-hour session. It is recommended to prioritize your questions to maximize your time. If you have follow-up questions you can book another consultation.

  • Can I book more than one session? Yes! You can book more than one session or follow-up sessions so long as there is availability.

  • Can I buy a package of consultations? We are currently working to implement packaged consultations. However, there is no limit to the number of consultations you can book.

Casey thinks of all the small details, has really smart and beautiful ideas, and finds interesting ways to bring it all together. She also has such a great point of view. When she likes an idea I’ve come up with, I know I’m on the right track.
